Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
"Stop worrying about whether you're going to win or lose and focus your full attention on what's happening right this moment."
Phil Jackson

Reflection: I believe this quote/ statement is used by optimists. This is about looking forward, making the best of things. People shouldn't worry too much about the future, it's coming anyway.. so why stress when you have plenty of time to change the feeling. For example, if you're going to have a game in a few weeks and you're stressing out over it.. then you're doing something wrong. Instead of worrying, you could've used your time practicing, training yourself to be better. Don't worry about much, just choose the right.

"When I was teaching basketball, I urged my players to try their hardest to improve on that very day, to make that practice a masterpiece.
This rule is even more important in life than basketball. You have to apply yourself each day to become a little better. By applying yourself to the task of becoming a little better each and every day over a period of time, you will become a lot better. Only then will you be able to approach being the best you can be. It begins by trying to make each day count and knowing you can never make up for a lost day."
John Wooden
Reflection: I completely agree with his quote. The most meaningful part of this quote is when John mentioned "the most important rule".. simply because it's true. He is a very wise man and those words he spoke are nothing but the truth, in an optimist's point of view. He only want the best for everyone. As long as you improve yourself, day by day, you'll make a difference. If you push yourself to do your best, you'll reach your goal eventually only because you are better than how you were yesterday. Setting goals is what can help you reach your destination even quicker! You'll have something to look forward to. Choose the right.

"In life as in football, you won't go far, unless you know where the goalposts are."
Arnold Glasgow

Reflection: To me, this quote means that in order to succeed, you must have a goal, somewhere where you're aiming at. For example, how will you be able to graduate from college if you don't even know what you're studying for? Having goals makes things 100x easier/ less complicated for you therefore, always have something to look forward to. This quote is just a simpler way to explain goals.

"Success is the dependent on effort."
Sophacles, Greek dramatist

Reflection: To me, this quote explains what's needed to be successful. In order to have a great future, you'll need a goal, somewhere you're aiming. With effort, all is possible. Knowing that you tried, did your best, and succeeded is the best feeling only because you put effort in whatever it was that you were doing. For example, if you study so many years, putting in effort to get the best grades, and graduated, then it all pays off. Effort is key.

"Choosing the right is always the right thing to do."
Alex Linares

Reflection: This quote pretty much summarizes itself. When you choose the right you already know it's the best thing to do only because it's positive. When involved with negative things, you don't have such a good ending. But when you choose the right, you may have great outcome.

"It's better to be alone than to be in  bad company."
Anon.
Reflection:  What this quote means is that when you're accompanied by bad company you will want to do the bad things people around you are doing, but when you're on your own, you aren't influenced by negativity. It's easier to stop yourself from doing something bad rather than feeling a bit peered pressure. For example, when you're on your own, nobody is around to tell you what you should do. But when you're at a party, surrounded by drunk people, or drugged people, you might want to give it a try and nobody will be there to stop you.

Reflection:
I believe it was real nice of the other girls from the opposing team to help a player who had fallen down. It was going to be her first home-run but she tore her acl moments before getting to the final base. It was really kind for the 2 other girls to carry her around the bases in order to get her to her first home-run. They chose the right.

"So often in our quest to be more popular and to be part of the "in-group", we lose sight of things that are far more important."
Sean Covey

Reflection: I believe this quote means that as somebody who is searching for popularity or tries to fit in, tends to ignore things that affect them. As you try so hard, you will eventually end up falling behind when just trying to go forward. For example, someone could try to be joining popular groups and the popular people may invite you to go out, not only are you blowing off your own friends, but you're also blowing off your homework and studying. You will lose track of what's really important and will one day end up regretting the choices you made.

"Whether I fail or succeed shall be no man's doing but my own. I am the force."
Elaine Maxwell

Reflection: The meaning of this quote is to inform people that you're only doing you. As long as you're focusing on yourself and trying your best, you should be on a positive road. You're your own strength and that's exactly how it should be.

"The time is always right to do what is right."
Martin Luther King Jr.
Reflection: The message that MLK tried to send with that quote is that no matter what you do, you can always make things better. It's always the right time to fix mistakes. You may be able to look back at your past and if you would like to fix damages, you can always find a way to make your future better.

“I shall pass through the life but once. Any good therefore that I can do, or any kindness I can show, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall never pass this way again.”

Etienne de Grellet

Reflection: What this quote means to me is that people shouldn’t be stopped from doing something good. If they want to help somebody in whatever way they’d like, then they should do what they want. They’re not always going to be around.. Helping others even if they don’t have enough for themselves, is a really kind thing to do.
