Attention to Detail (7-10)

Attention to Detail
7 of 10

When you double-check your calculations for a math problem or cite sources carefully in a research paper, you're paying close attention to detail. That skill come in hand in any workplace, whether you maintain a database, keep a log of the hours you spend with clients or write e-mails.

John Wooden, UCLA's former great basketball coach who lead his team to ten consecutive national championships, was asked what he attributed his success to. Among a number of things, he mentioned paying to details was one of the most important qualities for successful coaching and for high achievement in any worthwhile pursuit. He even paid attention to how his players would lace up and tie their shoe strings. If they didn't tie them correctly, he would teach them how.

Details may be small things, but from small things come great things; therefore, pay attention to details and you will experience substantial progress in your overall education attainment.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT!

Student Success Statement
"When I was teaching basketball, I urged my players to try their hardest to improve on that very day, to make that practice a masterpiece.
This rule is even more important in life than basketball. You have to apply yourself each day to become a little better. By applying yourself to the task of becoming a little better each and every day over a period of time, you will become a lot better. Only then will you be able to approach being the best you can be. It begins by trying to make each day count and knowing you can never make up for a lost day."
John Wooden
Reflection: I completely agree with his quote. The most meaningful part of this quote is when John mentioned "the most important rule".. simply because it's true. He is a very wise man and those words he spoke are nothing but the truth, in an optimist's point of view. He only want the best for everyone. As long as you improve yourself, day by day, you'll make a difference. If you push yourself to do your best, you'll reach your goal eventually only because you are better than how you were yesterday. Setting goals is what can help you reach your destination even quicker! You'll have something to look forward to. Choose the right.

"The Three Don'ts
Don't whine
Don't complain
Don't make excuses"
John Wooden

Reflection: John Wooden was a very smart man with positive and encouraging thoughts. With his "3 Don'ts", people should live an organized life. For example, without whining, you;ll be able to get stuff done in a matter of hours, maybe minutes. You're just making it harder for yourself. Without complaining, you'll be able to encourage yourself to keep on striving. AND most importantly, don't make excuses! Making excuse will only slow you down, you need to try, do your best. John Wooden's quote should encourage people to keep on moving, those three don'ts will only make you fall behind.

"The Three Nevers:
Never lie
Never cheat
Never steal"
-John Wooden

Reflection: Life should be lived on by John Wooden's quote. It's a basic point that everybody should get through their head. If you don't cheat, nor steal, then there'll be no need to lie. Those three "nevers" should be paid attention to. That's choosing the wrong. Doing any of those three will only get you in trouble and will affect your life drastically. If you get used to doing it so often, it won'[t feel like much to you, but in reality.. you're only getting yourself in deeper trouble. It's unfair to yourself, and it's unfair to others as well. Not only are you cheating yourself, but for example, the people around you who are there to learn from your steps. Always do what's best for each other, tell the truth no matter what the consequences are. Never cheat, find a way to reach your goal, just make sure it's done the right way. Last but not least, never steal, you can always find a way to earn your own things.
